” The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ”

John 18:1-19:42

As we read the passion of Jesus again today, we reflect on the various responses of those around Him. we see the disciples who ran away, Peter who denied Him, Pontius Pilate’s condemnation, the love of His mother, Simon who was compelled to help, the distressed woman, the complicit soldiers, and the indifferent crowd. Where do we stand? Who are we in this narrative? What is our attitude before the passion and death of Jesus? Is our heart filled with gratitude and love?

Today, we are reminded of the great love of Jesus, who freely and unconditionally gave His life for us while we are still sinners. Often, before we extend our love to others, we ass soliess whether they are worthy of it. If someone has hurt us, we may wait for an apology before we offer our love. However, this approach is very different from how Jesus loves. As you read about his passion, pay attention to how often He demonstrates His unconditional love. May we learn from Jesus how to love everyone freely and generously.
