“They left everything and followed him.”
Luke 5:1-11
In today’s reading, Jesus invites Simon to trust him, and ‘put out into deep water’. Astonished by the catch of fish, he leaves everything to follow Jesus. Are we able to have this same kind of trust and detachment in our own lives, so that when Jesus invites us to follow or to put out into deep water, we can respond? If not, we can dialogue with Jesus about this, sharing our fears, hesitation, or questions.
Jesus reminds us ‘Do not be afraid’. Whatever he asks of us in our following, he will always give us the grace to do it. Do I see myself on the shore in this scene, or am I able to go out into deep water, with Jesus? Today, let us give thanks for the gift it is to know Jesus, and that we may continue to deepen in our following of him throughout our life.
