St Monica
“You have been enriched in many ways in Christ.”
1 Corinthians 1:1-9
In today’s reading, St Paul reminds us of the importance of gratitude and thanksgiving. God may not give us everything we want, but we know that he is faithful, and has given us everything we need. If he has called us, he will sustain us, and we will never lack any spiritual gift we need to do his mission. The spiritual gifts are given to each of us to help build up the church. Do I know what spiritual gifts I have been given?
As we remember St Monica today, we give thanks for her witness and gift of intercessory prayer. This gift is given by God to pray for others for extended periods with deep consistency, faith, and tangible results. Through her gift, her son Augustine returned to the faith and became one of the greatest theologians in history. Truly, God does not call the qualified, by qualifies those who he calls!
