“Take nothing for the journey.”
Luke 9:1-6
Sometimes we get caught up in the busyness of life and can’t properly hear and respond to God’s call. In our passage today, we are reminded that Jesus never stops calling us, but to hear him, we need to leave behind our distractions, our past, and our self-centeredness so that we can attend to the mission he has entrusted to us. Jesus says, “Take nothing for the journey.”
The only things we need are the gifts that he has given us: faith, trust, love and his Word. Let us open ourselves up to these gifts and pray for the faith to believe that he will take care of the rest. Jesus is calling each of us by name for a purpose. Are we ready to proclaim his Good News? Do we trust him enough to accept this calling?
