All Saint’s Day

“The only son of his mother, and she a widow.”

Luke 7:11-17

In this reading, Jesus shows his compassion, mercy and unconditional love. When we are sad, troubled, and feeling alone, Jesus’ heart goes out to us, gives us comfort, and is there for us; he never leaves us unattended. By looking at Jesus, we can also learn to be like him, sensitive to other people’s feelings and needs.

Sometimes, we may take things for granted, ignore or deny truths or make excuses, but these things do not help us grow. Giving without conditions enables us to share God’s love and kindness with others. Do we walk away when we see that people are in trouble? Do we lend a helping hand to others?

Today we remember all the Saints, the holy women and men who have lived their lives imitating Jesus. Those canonised by the church and those other saints who are known to God alone. We give thanks for their fidelity.
