“You shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:6-8

Today’s passage is a powerful reminder of the importance of the Holy Spirit in the mission of believers. It emphasises that the power to witness and spread the gospel is not dependent solely on human effort the Holy Spirit but is empowered by the Holy Spirit. We believers are encouraged to be active participants in the mission of spreading the gospel, not just locally but globally. It also highlights the need for us to be spiritually empowered and to focus authentically on our mission.

This passage calls us to exercise a balance between belief and action, guided by the Holy Spirit, who equips us to fulfil our calling as witnesses for Christ. We are called to cultivate a deeper understanding of the nature of God’s kingdom, which is not confined to political or cultural boundaries but is a transformative force in the world. We are challenged to examine our own expectations of God’s work in our lives. Are we focused on our own decisions or timelines, or are we open to the broader mission that God has for us? As we pray, may we be inspired to embrace our role in spreading the gospel and living out our faith with the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
