“The smallest of all seeds grows into the biggest shrub of all.”

Matthew 13:31-35

In today’s reading, Jesus compared “the kingdom of God to a mustard seed. Jesus says that even though it is the smallest of all the seeds, it grows into the biggest shrub of all. At times we can feel like our faith in Jesus is small, but we are reminded that even with a little faith, a little trust in Jesus can work in us so that we can collaborate in building the kingdom of God here on earth.

God gives us the “seed” and gift of faith, but how are we cultivating this? Just like a plant that needs to be watered each day, what are we doing to help nurture our faith daily? What can we do each day to grow spiritually to build the Kingdom of God?

We may focus on our prayer life by listening to Jesus and letting him tell us how he wants to use our lives to help others come to know him. Like this shrub in the gospel, our lives can be a place where people can encounter God.
