Sunday 22nd of March

5th Sunday of Lent

“I am the resurrection and the life.”

John 11:1-45

Today’s passage is long, so take your time and read it slowly. As you read, try to notice whom you identify with in the story. Do you feel like the disciples who struggled to understand Jesus’ logic? Or like Martha, whose faith moved her to go out and meet him? Are you like Mary, overwhelmed by grief? Or perhaps like Lazarus, lying lifeless in the tomb. Stay with the person you most relate to and watch how Jesus brings hope to them. Jesus wants to do the same for us. He came for each of these people and spoke directly to their needs. To the disciples, he asked for trust. To Martha and Mary, he called for faith. And to Lazarus, he said, “Come out.”

What the Lord wants us to see is that he is the answer to all the realities of life. He is the giver of life, the healer of brokenness, the restorer of hope, the answer to doubt, and the light in the darkness. In every moment of our lives, we are invited to turn to Jesus. The message is clear: Jesus brings life even when all hope seems gone. He came for each of them, and he came for all human suffering.
