Sunday 21st of December
“Lift up your heads, O gates; be lifted up, you ancient doors…”
Psalm 24:1–6
As we enter the final days of Advent, our Psalm today invites us to stop waiting outside and begin opening within. We are reminded that everything already belongs to God: “The earth is the Lord’s and all it holds.” Advent is not about preparing a place for a distant visitor, but about recognising the rightful King of heaven and earth who desires to dwell in our midst.
The psalm asks a searching question: “Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?” The answer is not found in status, achievement, or outward success, but in the heart: “One whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean.” As Christmas draws near, we are called to examine not our schedules, but our souls. What needs to be laid down? What doors remain closed? What distractions keep the King of Glory waiting? Psalm 24 ends with a promise: “Such are the people who seek the face of the God of Jacob.” Those who seek Him will find Him—not in grandeur, but in a child; not in power, but in love.
