“Not everyone who says Lord, Lord will enter the Kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 7:21-23
Jesus invites his disciples to consider what true discipleship really means. Being a disciple of Jesus is not simply about doing good deeds or saying the right things. In our reading, Jesus makes it clear: to enter the Kingdom of Heaven, we must do the will of our Father in heaven. In our own lives, many of us strive to perform acts of kindness, generosity, and service. But we are also called to ask ourselves: Am I truly seeking and doing the will of God, my Father in heaven? To know God’s will, we must spend time in prayer. It is in this loving encounter with God that God reveals his will for us. He tells us how he wants us to live the day; however, he wants us to be at home, at work, with friends. We can talk to him about the “how and why.”
It is in our daily prayer, discerning, seeking, and doing of the Father’s will that opens the door to the Kingdom of Heaven. So, let us be mindful not to rush ahead with our own plans and desires. Instead, may we take time to listen for God’s voice, and have the humility to accept His will, especially when it challenges or differs from our own.
