“Abraham looked forward to a city founded, designed and built by God.”
Hebrews 11:1-2,8-12
As we continue our journey through this Jubilee Year as Pilgrims of Hope, we are reminded of the deep connection between faith and hope. St. Paul says, “Only faith can guarantee the blessings that we hope for.” If we are to move forward in hope, we must be rooted in faith. Faith propels us forward, just as it did for Abraham and Sarah in the Old Testament. While our present circumstances might seem limiting or discouraging, faith enables us to look beyond them—to trust in what we cannot yet see.
Consider the promise God made to Abraham and Sarah: that in their old age, without any children, they would become the parents of countless descendants. From a human perspective, this promise seemed absurd. And yet, Abraham believed. He placed his trust in God and stepped forward in obedience, even when the outcome was unseen. In our own lives, are there things the Lord is asking of us that seem unrealistic, or even impossible? How do we respond? Do we dismiss them as fantasy and continue with life as usual? Or, like Abraham, do we choose to believe and follow?
