Sunday 16th of August

“We should keep running steadily in the race we have started.”

Hebrews 12:1-4

As we know, the Jubilee Year—a time of renewal, release, and restoration—is a fitting moment for us to revisit this profound passage. Hebrews 12:1–4 offers both encouragement and challenge for us who are walking the path of faith. On this path, we are invited to keep on track by “throwing off” anything that hinders us in our following. Not everything that hinders is necessarily sinful—it may be distractions, misplaced priorities, bitterness, fear, or even comfort that keeps us from wholehearted devotion. But sin entangles—it wraps around us, slows us down, and can ultimately trip us.

Life in Christ is not a sprint, but a marathon. It requires endurance. Each of us has a “race marked out”—a path unique to us, with its own joys and hardships. God does not ask us to run someone else’s race, but our own, faithfully. Perseverance means continuing, even when the way is hard, the reward seems far away, or the crowd has thinned. We are not alone!
