“The Canaanite woman debates with Jesus and saves her daughter.”

Matthew 15:21-28

Jesus’ initial response to this woman may be jarring for some of us. Why did Jesus speak to her in this way? Jesus’ reaction does not put the woman off. She persists in putting forward her request to Jesus. She says, “Lord help me.” Recognising who Jesus was and what he could do for her daughter, she would not give up on her request for healing. Jesus did meet her request and healed her daughter, acknowledging her great faith.

We can learn much from this woman, particularly her persistence and faith. How is our persistence in prayer? Do we approach Jesus with the faith of this woman even when we feel that he has not heard us? Lord, we pray that you might help us to be unrelenting in our faith and trust.
