“Solomon chooses the gift of wisdom.”

1 Kings 3:4-13

The Lord was pleased when Solomon asked for wisdom instead of long life, riches, or power over others. Yet the Lord granted those gifts to him anyway, out of generosity, but perhaps also because He gave Solomon what he was ready to receive. Solomon came to the Lord with a grateful heart, acknowledging that all he had inherited was from Him. He was humble enough to recognise what he lacked and desired to serve his people better through his request. Because of this, he would not easily misuse the gifts given to him.

In the same way, let us examine our hearts today. How are we when we petition the Lord? Do we have our hearts set right? And if we do not receive what we want, do we trust that the Lord knows best what we are ready to receive and when?
