“Jesus’ relatives were convinced he was out of his mind.“
Mark 3:20-21
To be called “out of your mind” means not being believed, neither as a person nor in what you are trying to do. In today’s reading, we see a striking contrast where crowds of people pursue Jesus so eagerly that he cannot even eat a meal. They seek healing, long to hear him speak, and believe in his power. Yet his own relatives, those who should know him best, think he is mad.
We may not think that way about Jesus, but do we sometimes struggle with unbelief in our own hearts? It can appear in subtle ways, like hesitating to ask God for something, or in larger ways, like giving up on a difficult situation or relationship because we think there’s no hope for healing. In those moments, we can remember what Jesus has already done, how he has redeemed us before, and trust that he can do it again. Today, let’s ask Jesus to come into those areas of unbelief in our hearts and strengthen our faith.
