“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.”

Isaiah 7:10-14

King Ahaz was afraid as he was about to be attacked, but he chose to trust the Assyrian army rather than God. Don’t we sometimes feel and act that way, too? Do we try to take control of the situation through our own will and actions? We may even find it difficult to be honest with God about our fears, much like Ahaz.

This Advent, amidst our anxieties, fears, and worries, we are called to lay them at the feet of the Father. And if we find it difficult to do so, we can ask Him to help us. We remember that this is the same Father who gives us hope for redemption and eternal life through the birth of Jesus. With the prophecy fulfilled, we know that our Father is one who keeps His promises, who is always with us, and who will never abandon us. What the Lord says shall be, shall be. We pray that we may remain faithful and trusting in Him.
