“When the bridegroom is taken from them, then they will fast.”
Matthew 9:14-17
Today we reflect on our need for Jesus, our ‘bridegroom’, to whom we seek and be renewed in our relationship with him. In knowing him more and more, we realise our need to make changes in our lives for the better, as we live to become more like him. We can come to realise our habits are like old wineskins and we need to break out of these habits and be renewed in faith by Jesus, like the new wineskins.
What are the parts of our lives that need an upgrade in faith and relationship with Jesus? Where do we need to create space to allow Jesus to renew our hearts and minds? How can we ‘fast’ from our old ways to the new life we can find in Christ Jesus? Jesus calls on us to deepen in our faith, for it is constantly growing and active, moving us to grow and mature in spirit and life.
