“He saved us, not because of deeds done by us in righteousness, but in virtue of his own mercy.”
Titus 3:4–7
In his letter to Titus, St. Paul urges the community to remember that we are no better than anyone else. There was a time when we, too, were foolish, disobedient, and led astray. Any goodness, kindness, obedience, faithfulness, or generosity we now show is not of our own making — it is because of God, our Savior, and His grace revealed through Jesus Christ.
God saved us, not because of any good deeds we had done, but purely out of His mercy. He poured out His Spirit on us through Jesus. This mercy is a gift — not a reward we earned. Sometimes we fall into the trap of believing that our status, gifts, or goodness come from our own effort, intelligence, or strength. But Paul reminds us: all we are and all we have is a gift from God. It is only through His goodness that we are able to live the Christian life, striving to reflect the character of Christ. Today, let us take time in prayer to recognise and give thanks for God’s mercy and goodness. May our lives be a reflection of His love and a testimony to the grace we have freely received.
