‘Take nothing with you’

Mark 6:7-13

In today’s reading, Jesus instructs the disciples for mission. Each of the twelve disciples was sent out from a place of relationship with Jesus, of knowing him. Pope Francis, in his letter instituting the Sunday of the word of God, wrote that our lives should ‘be constantly marked by this decisive relationship with the living word that the Lord never tires of speaking to his Bride, that she may grow in love and faithful witness’.

As we come to prayer today, are we open to hearing from Jesus, who desires to speak to us? We too are sent out from our relationship with him, as his witnesses. How is he inviting me to follow him today? What does this passage stir in me? We can speak to Jesus about this today, as we pray for the grace to be open to his guidance and promptings.
