“You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church.”
Matthew 16:13-23
In today’s passage, Jesus asks his disciples ‘who do people say that the Son of Man is’ and ‘who do YOU say that I am?’ In our prayer today, we might ask what our own response to this question would be, and let this be the start of our dialogue with Jesus.
For Peter, his answer revealed the depth of his understanding and led to his purpose and mission. Does our response reflect our own purpose and mission as followers of Jesus? Peter knew that Jesus was the Messiah, the Son of God, and was given the responsibility of the keys to the kingdom. What responsibility has Jesus entrusted to us? How can we work with him to fulfil his mission? Today let us pray that we can follow in St Peter’s footsteps to know Jesus more and build his church through of our lives.
