“God reveals his name to Moses.”
Exodus 3:13-20
In today’s reading, God reveals his name to Moses as “I am who am”, and “This is my name forever, this is my title for all generations.” Responding to Moses’ question about what he is to say, God reveals that “I AM”,affirming that he is eternal and always has been. He exists outside of time; he was, is, and is to come. He is constant, never changing, and is always present. He is the one who sees and hears, who knows and remembers, who cares and loves.
We are the recipients of this revelation, many generations after Moses, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Today, let us pray that we too may be led by our loving, ever-present God, who has a plan for us, and that we may continue to pass on his name for generations to come.
