“It is what comes out of a man that makes him unclean.”

Mark 7:14-23

As we begin our prayer today, we thank God for the gift of Jesus, who directs our lives and paths. Our reading follows on from yesterday’s passage and invites us to continue reflecting on the spiritual health of our lives.

In drawing near to Jesus, we are refined and purified.  A life centred on prayer allows us to fully appreciate his grace, empowering us to go out of our way to help others, show kindness, and acknowledge his hand in all things.  Without him, we are left to our own weaknesses, selfishness, and worldly nature, such as we may say things that hurt others or live in ways that lead us away from him.

So, how do we keep our hearts pure?  How can we allow God’s love to transform us through prayer, compassion, and generosity?
