“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son. that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”
John 3:1-19
We might have seen on TV people holding signs showing “John 3: 16”. Why do people choose this passage as the most important part of the Bible that they want to share with others? People who are suffering and looking for hope can see in this message from God how there is more to this life than all of our problems on earth. God doesn’t want to condemn us, but to save us. How could God have shown His love more for us than to send His only Son to save us?
We can also personalise this message by rephrasing it to “God so loved me”, to emphasise that this is my personal salvation story that I can believe and share with others. We might find it helpful to say this passage in our hearts when we are feeling down and lost. “Father, please help me to believe this and that I am Your precious child!” Then we’ll be able to share the Good News that God wants to give us eternal life with others when they are feeling hopeless and depressed.
