“Jesus walks on the water“
Matthew 14:22-36
Some scholars say that a proof that the Gospels are true is that they show the Apostles as ordinary human beings with faults. If the Apostles were making up stories about Jesus, they would show themselves in a positive light. Jesus said, “Take courage.” Peter responded in a radical way and got out of the boat and started walking towards Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he left his fear overcome him and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
When have we had an opportunity to follow Jesus? He may have asked us in prayer to reach out to someone or to be more involved in the Verbum Dei community. We don’t have to worry if we get out of the boat of our comfort zone but start to sink. St Peter had the same fault, but Jesus reached out to him and lifted him up to become the first leader of His church. St Peter, please help us to imitate your courage in following Jesus and in your faith in reaching out to Jesus in your need.
