“Joshua shall cross the Jordan at your head.”
Deuteronomy 31:1-8
God told Moses that he would not be the person to take his people into the Promised Land. Moses could have stayed in his disappointment, but instead he focused on encouraging the Israelities and on training his young successor, Joshua. Moses told Joshua to be strong and courageous because the Lord would always be with him.
We can reflect on our experiences of leadership. When have we supported leaders in the church or in other areas of our lives? Or we can focus on when we have had challenges as leaders ourselves. We all have opportunities to share our faith with the next generation within our families or with friends. When we support our leaders, do we focus on being hopeful and on relying on God? When we are leading others, do we lead by example by facing our challenges and encouraging our community? Father God, please help us to learn from the examples of Moses and Joshua to walk with you on our journey of faith and to encourage others on our way to the Promised Land.
