“The harvest is rich but the labourers are few.”
Matthew 9:32-38
How do we feel when Jesus tells us to ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest? We might feel inadequate because people’s needs are so great. So many people are sick and there is so much need for the Good News to be heard. Who are we to help? How can we cure or teach like Jesus? He cast out demons and cured every disease and sickness.
But we should not focus on ourselves and our worries, but instead on the compassion of Jesus. People are harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Jesus wants to help them, and he calls us to follow him. Jesus doesn’t choose the perfect; he perfects the chosen. He is the Lord of the harvest, and he is in control. Jesus, please help us to see that our mission to gather in your harvest isn’t about us, it is about the needs of others. We know that you will always be with us in our labors as you promised.
