“As the darnel is gathered up and burnt, so it will be at the end of time.”

Matthew 13:36-43

A great mystery that we face as Christians is the problem of evil. Why does God, our all-powerful Father, who loves all of His children, allow bad things to happen to good people? Why doesn’t God stop all the wars, cure all diseases and stop all of the suffering on earth?

Jesus gives us an answer to this question in today’s reading. He sows us in the world as the children of the kingdom. He wants everyone to bear good fruit, but He also gives people free will. Some people produce love and Good news. But other people choose to listen to the devil and add to the suffering in the world. If Jesus took over the world today, people would not have a choice as to which path they followed. He asks everyone to listen, but He treats us as his brothers and sisters, not as creatures with no will. Jesus, please help us to be your good seed today so that we can help to make the world a better place and shine like the sun in the kingdom of our Father in Heaven.
