“Let your light shine before others.”
Matthew 5: 13-16
Today, we have the luxury of being able to turn on a light switch or to have salt added to our food before we eat it. But until recently, light was a luxury. People made the most of daylight hours because oil for lamps was expensive. Also, there were trade routes to transport salt because it is essential for life. The people who Jesus was speaking to appreciated salt and light.
Jesus emphasised the value of the light of our faith and of our good works to give glory to our Father in heaven. Do we see the value of sharing our faith and of doing good for others? We can reflect on times when we have seen the difference that our faith and our help made to others. God made us to make a difference in the world. We don’t want to be useless, trampledunder-foot orhiddenaway.GodourFather, thank you for the times when you have been able to work through us to be light for the world.
