Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
Colossians 3:12-16
In this passage, we are reminded of our identity as God’s chosen people, deeply loved and set apart. Paul urges us to “clothe” ourselves with Christ-like virtues: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, and above all, love. These qualities do not come naturally; they are cultivated through prayer and our relationship with God. Verse 16 gives us a powerful invitation: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly.” This means not simply having some shallow or quick visit to the scriptures, but to take time frequently to meditate on God’s Word so that it can shape our thinking, soften our hearts, and transform our actions. For the Word to dwell richly, we must become people of prayer, and ask God to open our hearts and minds, to make His Word come alive, and to help us not just hear it but live it out daily.
When we pray for the Word of God, we are not just asking for understanding; we are asking for transformation. We invite the Spirit to take the message of Christ and plant it deeply within us, so that it overflows in wisdom, gratitude and love for others.
