“My yoke is easy and my burden light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
In today’s reading, Jesus says ‘Come to me, all who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest’. As we come to prayer today, we can check in with ourselves and notice: how am I feeling today? Am I feeling tired or burdened? If so, why? We can tell Jesus about this because he cares for us. He knows the weight we carry, because he feels the weight of it too.
We can learn from Jesus, who would often go to secluded places to pray and dialogue with God the Father. Do we share with God our burdens and struggles, or do we carry these alone? Are my burdens from outside sources, or do I also burden myself unnecessarily? What is Jesus inviting me to let go of today? Jesus, teach us to follow your example. Teach us how to pray, and allow us to find true rest in you.
