“It will not go as hard with Sodom on Judgement Day as with you.”

Matthew 11:20-24

What happened to the city of Sodom? In the book of Genesis, God told Abraham that Sodom had a reputation for wickedness. Abraham negotiated with God to spare Sodom if 10 righteous people could be found. 10 righteous people could not be found in Sodom and the people would not repent even after God’s warnings. God destroyed the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah and only spared Lot and his 2 daughters. The people in Sodom were not only wicked, they did not repent even after God reached out to them.

Jesus warned the cities in which most of his deeds of power had been done to repent. They received even stronger warnings than Sodom because they had seen the miracles of Jesus. What miracles have we seen Jesus do in our lives? We may know people who have had physical healings. We may have experienced a change of heart in ourselves after a strong experience of praying with God’s Word or receiving the sacraments. Jesus, please help us to be open to Your Word and to your deeds of power, so that we heed your warnings and repent before Judgement Day and encourage others to do the same.
