The Transfiguration of the Lord
“This is my Son, the Beloved.”
Mark 9:2-10
Peter, James and John must have felt very privileged. Jesus chose them as his closest disciples to share an intimate experience. Jesus was transfigured and then He was joined by 2 great prophets of their Scriptures. Peter wanted to build dwellings for them so that they could stay with Jesus and the prophets on the mountain. The disciples did not want to return to their everyday lives of working and dealing with problems.
Jesus showed us that we can’t avoid our problems forever. He went to the mountain because He needed the support of His Father, who said, ‘This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!’ Jesus then did His Father’s will and went to Jerusalem, His Passion and His cross. What cross is Jesus asking us to carry? He shares His peace with us in prayer to strengthen us. But He then asks us to follow Him, go down the mountain and to continue our mission. Thank you Jesus for sharing your glory with us. Please help us to have faith that we will share eternal life with you if we are your faithful disciples.
