“Whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.”
Matthew 10:37-39
Jesus reminds us that we must prepare to take up our cross and follow him to be his true disciples. We do not want to be his disciples only by name. When we see negative publicity about Christianity, it is not about Christians being genuine in their faith and following Jesus. Non-Christians criticise churches when they do the opposite of what Jesus would do – abusing people and using money meant for the poor to live in riches.
What do people see when they look at us? Do they see followers of Jesus who are worthy of Him, or hypocrites who avoid problems and do not want to face the trials of faith? We can’t solve all the problems of our church and of other Christian denominations, but we can lose our lives for the sake of Jesus. If we truly try to love Jesus first, we will find life in all its fullness. Jesus, please help us to be your true followers, so that people will see You when they see us.
