Mary, Help of Christians

“Woman, this is your son.” Then to the disciple he said, ‘This is your mother.’ And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home.”

John 19:25-27

Today we celebrate the Feast of Mary, Help of Christians, who is also Patroness of Australia. The Church honours the role of Mary as the Mother of God and the Mother of the Church shown through history. We have just celebrated the canonisation of the shepherd children of Fatima where Mary revealed herself to the world in a very dark time in World War 1.

Jesus wanted to share His mother with us so much. He used almost His last breath and energy on earth to say to St. John and to us, “Here is your mother.” What is our reaction to this unbelievable gift of Jesus sharing His family with us? Do we take Mary into the home of our heart? Do we wonder how we can come closer to Jesus through Mary? Mary has given us the means through her appearance at Fatima, where she offered us the gift of the Rosary to come closer to her Son by praying on the mysteries of His life
