“He who has dipped his hand into the dish with me is the one who will betray me.”
We can see all through the Old and New Testaments the importance of meals and hospitality. Even today in many cultures, a guest is given great honour. The apostles were sharing in the Last Supper after sharing many meals with Jesus during the years of His ministry. They were His most trusted friends.
Jesus says, “Woe to that man who betrays the Son of Man! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” How many meals have we shared with Jesus through the sacrament of the Eucharist? He treats us as the ultimate honoured guests by sharing Himself with us. How do we repay His trust? Do we acknowledge Him in front of others and do what He asks? As we share the Passion of Jesus this Easter, we can ask forgiveness for the times when we have betrayed Jesus as Judas did.
